Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers for confident care

Everything patients, families, and care teams need to know about Patient Talker.

PART 01

Product Basics

What is Patient Talker?
  • Patient Talker is a mobile app for patients to prepare for, capture, and organize medical conversations.

  • It is designed for ease of use and to allow you to safely and securly share information with your family/caregivers.

Does the app provide medical advice or second opinions?
  • No. Patient Talker is focused on being a complement to doctor-patient conversations, not a replacement.

  • The app provides absolutely zero medical advice or clinical recommendations. We focus strictly on making the doctor’s existing care plan understandable and actionable.

How much does it cost, and are there hidden fees?
  • 100% Free: There is never any cost to patients to download or use the core functionality of the app.

PART 02

Exam Room Realities

Are the summaries accurate, and how does the AI handle complex jargon?
  • Patient Talker uses AI to transcribe and summarize medical conversations, but no AI system is perfect. Transcripts and summaries can contain errors or omissions, so important details should be reviewed and questions confirmed with your healthcare team.

How does the app handle strong accents or fast speech?
  • Patient Talker is designed to handle a range of speaking styles and accents, but accuracy can vary with audio quality, background noise, speaking speed and accent. Review important details after the visit.

Are languages other than English supported?
  • Yes. Patient Talker currently supports 20+ languages for recording, transcription, and summarization.

How do I ask my doctor for permission to record?
  • Keep It Simple: Use straightforward, polite phrasing: “Doctor, I want to be sure I can remember everything we talk about today. I have a new app that lets me take notes just like I would using paper and pencil. Do you mind if we use it?”

  • Recording office visits is rapidly becoming common practice. Recording laws may vary by state and circumstances. Patient Talker asks you to get the clinician's permission before recording.

What happens if a doctor declines to be recorded?
  • Always respect the doctor’s request.

Can I upload paper documents, like a hospital discharge report?
  • Yes. Patients can scan or upload physical discharge summaries directly into the app. The app parses the dense medical jargon on the paper and instantly translates it into a plain-English care timeline for the resident and their family.

PART 03

Privacy

Is my information secure, and where is the data actually stored?
  • Compliance Standards: Patient Talker is not a HIPAA-covered entity by legal definition, but our architecture is explicitly designed to adhere to strict HIPAA-level privacy and security standards.

Who has access to the data, and can access be revoked?
  • The patient controls their account and decides when to share their information. Within the app, a patient can securely designate family members, caregivers, or advocates to have viewing access. This permission can be reviewed or instantly revoked by the patient at any time.
